Violence and Self-Defense/ Prophetic Perils
In the first half, President and CEO of the International Combat Martial Arts Federation (ICMAF), Bradley Steiner, talked about self-defense, law enforcement issues, and the psychology of violence. Behind the increased reports of police-related violence, he cited the decay of our culture, and "by and large, an overwhelming number of people who no longer have a clear sense of morality...and they resent the fact that there are authority figures who'll curtail them...with necessary force when they behave badly." He also believes that there's a concerted effort to undercut local law enforcement so that federal authorities can take over what they're doing.

Steiner offered practical tips for people to avoid danger when walking around a city, such as being mindful of where you're going, and crossing the street if you see unsavory people coming your way. Instead of packing something like pepper spray, he recommended carrying a handful of aquarium gravel in your outer pocket, to throw in an assailant's face if necessary. He also suggested techniques that could incapacitate an attacker, such as kicking them in the knee. One of the basic rules of self-defense is to never allow a suspicious person to remove you from the initial scene, he added.

Fighting violent crime: Class teaches ladies personal security

In a city the size of Prescott, many people may not give much thought to violent crime. That's a mistake, say local people in the selfdefense business.
"We don't think about it because we're in a small town," said Roxanne Hull, a Damsel in Defense consultant from Chino Valley. Damsel in Defense is company that offers nonlethal personal safety devices such as stun guns, door alarms, pepper spray and noisemakers.
Prescott is a relatively safe place, seventhdegree blackbelt Mark Bryans said, adding that violent crime happens anywhere."It could happen at any time," he said.
Bryans, who runs Real World Self Defense (prescottcombatives.com), has been teaching self defense both with and without weapons for more than 25 years. His studio regularly offers coed classes and occasional ladiesonly classes. (to read the full article - click here).

Prof. Steiner was excellent on coast to coast AM.

In the first half of the show, President and CEO of the International Combat Martial Arts Federation (ICMAF), Bradley Steiner, talked about the increase of violence and personal assaults in the U.S. and what the average person needs to know about technical and tactical readiness for trying socioeconomic times. Regarding the rise of "Knockout Game" attacks, in which unsuspecting people are knocked out by sucker punches, "I think this goes with the overall decline in our culture," with psychopathic behavior on the increase, and victims being treated like objects for the amusement of the perpetrators, he remarked.
The best way to protect yourself from violent assults is to maintain a high level of alertness, and environmental awareness, so that you're cognizant of what is going on around you, he advised. By knowing who is near you, you can avoid someone approaching you without your awareness, and thus be more prepared. That awareness alone often discourages an attempt for someone to prey upon you, as they are typically looking for helpless or oblivious victims, he continued.
Steiner highlighted the differences between practical self defense and close combat. Sports like judo and traditional martial arts are not necessarily practical or realistic to use when one is being attacked. "You want simple skills that inflict very serious injury quickly," and should use those rather than trying to break free when someone has you in a hold, he recommended. He also addressed the problem of school bullying, and suggested that victims need to learn to fight back to preserve their dignity as well as their safety.

Steiner a world renowned authority in personal security will share with us practical information, ideas, education and tactics that we can all use to make ourselves, loved ones and property safer.

February 25th, 2014 - Rotary Club Presentation
7th degree black belt Professor Mark Bryans will address the Rotary Club and the topic will be "The Enemy in Self Defense, the Psychopath". Much is misunderstood about what constitutes real-world self defense and what does not. The enemy you confront in the street will not be a sportsman but will be an extra legal violent predator, the psychopath. It is imperative that students of self-defense understand this in order to be properly equipped to deal with this deadly predator.
Professor Bryans will reveal the true nature of this animal and how to deal with the psychopath if necessary.
Professor Bryans offers an introductory course which can give anyone the basic skills of  SELF-DEFENSE against a real world attack.
